The fourth annual Art Crawl, sponsored by the Athens Area Arts Council, will take place 5-9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, along Prince Avenue in downtown Athens. This year’s theme is “Sunset and Shadows,” although artists are encouraged to submit pieces of all types to the event.
The AWA is proud to be working with Rabbit Box and Athens Word of Mouth to bring the art of the spoken word to the festivities. Among other places, we will be performing in the T.R.R. Cobb House.
The event route hits stops along Prince Avenue, including Go Bar, the Bottleworks and Daily Groceries, with a detour for kids activities at Big City Bread. Works will be featured in businesses along the way. This year will differ from prior iterations: not only have they moved from Pulaski Street to Prince Avenue, but they are also expanding the breadth of media to include more than the hand-made arts. Music, theater, spoken word, video, and other performances will be included along the crawl.
Last year’s event brought more than 400 people to see the art and mingle among the businesses on the route. Athens Area Arts Council board members and other volunteers organizing this year’s event hope to draw an even bigger crowd this year to see the varied performances, interactive displays and kids activities. They will be using the hashtag #ATHNOW for the event, allowing everyone to share the experience in real-time.
You can find the event on Facebook, hosted by Athens Art Crawls.
Where do you fit in? The AWA will be reading all evening and would love to have you come visit us and listen all the spoken word artists. We also are still filling spots in our reader lineup — which might be original pieces written for the event or ones that tie in with the other contributors — the details are still being ironed out.
If you are interested in being part of the reading (or volunteering to help the AWA that day) please email me at Katherinecerulean@gmail.com
We are very excited to be part of such a wonderful Athens event!
